Hi all and welcome to R8 News Blog.
After a rained out round 7 it was good to get out and have a kick again in great conditions.
Next week is the last round before finals and your last chance to make a move up the ladder.
Finals Format
- Every team will play one Final.
- All finals will be played at Wesley.
- Final ladder positions will determine your opponent. (11v12,10v09........3v4,1v2)
- Times will be available next week but lower placed sides will play early and top 2 teams from each division will play last as our grand finalists.
- Only Grand Final Winners will receive a trophy for their division. (Panthers please return trophy to Macca this week)
End of season after match drinks
- We once again have the use of Coates pavilion and refreshments will be available at the bar along with our popular free Dim Sims.
- Please enjoy our after match drinks as proceeds go towards paying our umpires and it creates a great social atmosphere to finish off the season.
- Unfortunately we were unable to secure a sponsor for our Xmas finals and the extravaganza of last year has been tempered to a relaxing after match drink and mingle with team mates and other players.
- Please no BYO.
Anti-social behaviour
-As we get closer to Finals and ladder positions become more important we understand that the competitive nature of players goes up a notch. Please remember we are a social competition and way too experienced (old) to be involved in any physical contact.
-AFL9s is a non contact sport, this means not only when the ball in play, but also off the ball. Grabbing, pushing, holding and block off the all are all forms of contact and will not be tolerated by R40s. Umpires will be instructed to send off any players involved in off the ball incidents and intentional contact in general play, without them being replaced.
-If an umpires decides that a team is collectively not playing within the rules or the spirit of the game, the game will be called off and awarded to the other side. (This has never happened at R40s and we hope it never will.)
Umpires
Over the next 2 weeks could all players do their best to accept the umpires decision. This will go along way to avoiding any nasty incidents and create a more enjoyable atmosphere for everyone. Umpires like players interpret the rules a little differently so if one umpire is paying free kicks that another umpire did not........ adapt, work out how he umpires and adapt!!
Next Season
R40s is in the process of firming up venues and length of Summer season. The start date will be the 2nd of Feb, the 1st Monday of the school term. Easter will interfere with the season and we are working on the logistics of that. Could all team captains please notify me ASAP of their intention to continue next season. New teams Welcome.
It is very important to get in as soon as possible as the Summer season may have to be capped.
ANZAC DAY 2015 Lightening premiership
On the 25th of April 2015, we remember all the soldiers who fought and died at Gallipoli in 1915. We have been invited by the East Malvern RSL to join in the Centenary activities by hosting an inaugural East Malvern RSL 9s Lightening P'ship cup. This will be a unique opportunity for teams and players to be part of this huge event and pay their respects to those that have fought and died for their country. We are very proud to host this event and would encourage all teams to get involved and join in the entire days activities starting at dawn service. Don't just watch, be a part of remembrance day 2015!!
Once again flag your teams interest early to avoid disappointment.
